How to use Snapee

Everything it does, from the one hotkey you’ll use all day to the tools most people never find.

The 10-second version

That’s it. The capture goes straight into Boom’s own storage — no outside service ever holds it — and the link you paste shows the image right in Slack, ClickUp, Gmail or a text.

These are ShareX’s defaults. Change any of them in ShareX → Hotkey settings. If Print Screen opens the Snipping Tool instead, see Troubleshooting.

Recording video & GIFs

  • MP4 for walkthroughs and bug reports — sharp, small, and it can carry your voice.
  • GIF for a few seconds of motion that should loop silently in a chat thread.
  • No length limit. Recordings upload straight to storage, not through the website, so a ten-minute demo works the same as a screenshot.
  • The first recording asks to download FFmpeg. Say yes — it’s what ShareX records with.
  • To include your voice, pick a microphone under Task settings → Screen recorder → Screen recording options → Audio source.

Marking it up before you share

Turn on After capture tasks → Open in image editor and every capture opens for a quick edit before it uploads. Close the editor and it carries on as normal.

  • Arrows, boxes and text to point at the thing that matters.
  • Step numbers — click, click, click — for how-to screenshots.
  • Blur or pixelate anything private: client data, emails, passwords, card numbers.
  • Highlight and magnify to pull the eye to one small detail.

Sharing

  • Every link is the file itself on Boom’s CDN, so chat apps and email show it inline — no click-through page.
  • Links don’t expire. They stop working only when you delete the capture.
  • Captures are filed by month, so a link tells you roughly when it was taken.
  • To send one to your phone, turn on After upload tasks → Show QR code and scan it.

Your library

Everything you’ve captured lives at snapee.online/admin, newest first, grouped by day. It asks for your admin password once per browser session.

  • Press / to search by file name, and filter to images, clips or files.
  • Copy link to share an old capture again; Delete removes it from storage for good.
  • In Chrome or Edge, use Install app from the address bar to pin the Library to your taskbar like any other program.

ShareX extras worth knowing

Grab text from anything

Tools → OCR. Drag over an image, a PDF or a video frame and the text lands on your clipboard.

Scrolling capture

Tools → Scrolling capture. One tall image of a whole web page or a long chat thread.

Pin to screen

Tools → Pin to screen. Keeps a capture floating on top while you work from it.

Color picker

Tools → Color picker. Hover any pixel, get its hex code.

Delayed capture

Capture → set a delay, for menus and tooltips that close when you press a key.

QR codes

After upload tasks → Show QR code, to move a capture to your phone in one scan.

Setting up a computer

  1. Install ShareX (free, open source).
  2. On Windows 11, free up the Print Screen key — see Troubleshooting.
  3. Open New machine in the Library. It lists every ShareX setting with a copy button next to each one.
  4. Take a test capture. It should appear at the top of the Library.

Troubleshooting

Print Screen opens the Windows Snipping Tool instead

Windows 11 claims the key. Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard → “Use the Print screen key to open screen capture” → Off, then restart ShareX.

Uploads fail with “Access Denied”

Almost always the secret key: a stray space or quote got pasted with it. Copy it again from New machine. Also check Use path style request is on.

The copied link doesn’t start with boom-snapee.b-cdn.net

Use custom domain is off, or the domain has a typo. The link still works; it just isn’t the fast CDN one.

A long recording fails but screenshots work

The Image and File uploaders must both be Amazon S3. The “Snapee (via app)” fallback goes through the website and stops at 4.5 MB.

I deleted a capture but the link still loads

The file is gone from storage; the CDN can serve a cached copy for a little while before it expires.
